Key Duties and Responsibilities
Truck dispatchers handle a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to the following:
Schedule Coordination: Dispatch truck drivers to pick-up and delivery locations according to pre-planned routes, taking into account distance, weather, traffic conditions, and driver availability.
Customer Service: Serve as the primary contact point for customers, addressing inquiries, managing complaints, and providing updates on the status of deliveries.
Real-Time Monitoring: Continuously track the location and status of trucks using dispatch software and GPS systems to ensure that routes are being followed as planned.
Communication: Maintain clear, professional, and effective communication with drivers to provide instructions, relay important information, or respond to unexpected challenges.
Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate logs related to vehicle mileage, fuel consumption, maintenance needs, repairs, and expenses. Ensure all records comply with federal and provincial regulations.
Emergency Dispatching: Be prepared to respond quickly in emergency situations, including accidents, breakdowns, or route closures, and dispatch the appropriate personnel to address the issue.
